How to use dishwasher pods for sparkling dishes
Using dishwasher pods is a simple step in the cleaning process that can help get your dishes squeaky clean, but adding pods the wrong way can result in a partially cleaned load grimy with residue.
How does a dishwasher work?
Dishwasher pods contain surfactants, which affect the liquid they are added to, making them more efficient at capturing and removing crumbs. They also contain enzymes (to break down protein and starch stains) and rinse aids (to treat hard water) as well as safe bleach.
Once you place the dishwasher tablet in the detergent dispenser chamber, the washing machine will dispense the contents at the optimal time, allowing the tablet to disintegrate in the water, dissolving all the ingredients and cleaning your dishes perfectly!
How do I use dishwasher tablets?
Dishwasher pods are very easy to use. All you have to do is remove the protective packaging, insert the pods into the detergent dispensing chamber, close the chamber, and turn on the washing machine.
- Remove the tablet from the package with dry hands and place it in the detergent dispenser. Make sure both the dispenser and tablet are dry to prevent it from dissolving prematurely.
- Close the cap of the tablet package tightly. Keep away from heat and moisture to protect the remaining tablets in the package.
- Close the detergent dispenser and close the dishwasher.
- Make sure all items are dishwasher safe and make sure breakable silverware is easily separated from other hardware.
- Wash metal items according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
- Run the dishwasher. The optimum water temperature is 51° – 60° C.
Can you put dishwasher pods in the bottom of the dishwasher?
Detergent pods should always be placed in the designated detergent dispensing compartment.
If you are placing a detergent pods in the bottom of the dishwasher, it will likely dissolve too quickly, causing the detergent to run out during the pre-wash and there being nothing left for the main wash cycle. This will reduce the washing efficiency.

Do dishwasher pods have a specific expiration date?
The standard shelf life for dishwasher tablets is two years, but it is best not to store products if you notice that the product or packaging has become deteriorating over time due to poor storage or other factors.
When using an expired dishwasher tablet, do not worry. It will not cause any harm to the kitchen utensils or the dishwasher, but it may be less effective than using it within its specified expiration period.
What should you do if the pods does not dissolve?
If the tablet does not dissolve properly, it may be due to two reasons: the water may not be hot enough or it is not being released from the detergent chamber in time. So you should first check that the water you use in the cycle is hot enough (about 45 to 65°C) to fully dissolve the tablet components – check your manual for further advice. You also need to make sure that the spring on the detergent dispenser door/lid is working well. As it may sometimes get stuck, causing the washing tablets not to be released at the right time, when the water is hotter.
